“My take on daywear is sophisticated and eccentric. It has to convey personality, uniqueness, character. Women are no longer afraid to dare”, said Alberta Ferretti for her new cruise collection, which she presented three days ago not anywhere else but at the Fashion Week in Monte Carlo, Monaco. This year, it went under the aegis of Charlene, Princess of Monaco.
“Green is the New Glam” is the motto of this year’s Fashion Week in the exotic city-state, and the designer even received an award for her new collection. Ferretti was honoured with the Ethical and Sustainable Award for her contribution to reducing waste in clothing production, the use of environmentally friendly materials and her dedication to more sustainable consumption of fashion items.
We didn’t see much green in her collection, but the materials which are present in the resort line are ethically grown cotton and recycled cashmere. Bravo, Alberta! She holds the opinion that only one season can’t transform dramatically the situation which the industry is in, but believes that small steps towards change are the way to a better future. And this is exactly what she is looking for in Alberta Ferretti Resort 2020 – a collection that is absolutely bohemian and screaming “Summer!”.
The designer takes to sunny Monte Carlo in the summer, where you don’t need any other attributes apart from a fresh outfit and some good mood. The line is focused on everyday wear, which is quite far from those overexposed and sometimes even weird looks that we are used to seeing on the catwalk. Instead of this, here we see clothes that we could wear every day without getting bored with them. Literally every day! Alberta showed 59 elegant outfits and we calculated a whole two-month holiday without any fear! A true dream, isn’t it?
The collection presents simple, every-day trousers, pencil skirts, mini dresses, shorts, T-shirts and blazers. The palette has been narrowed down to several main colours – white, champagne, ochre, turquoise and sky blue. Highlights in pink and red show up from time to time and they are in contrasting materials – leather and chiffon. The cuts have been kept exclusively feminine – without exaggerated shoulders or waistline, with a very delicate and feminine silhouette. Apart from pastel, the line is additionally diversified with black, navy blue and light-coloured suede, as well as several evening gowns that remind us of the beach, the waves and the sky of Monaco, showered with stars.
All the outfits are quite practical, but very elegant at the same time. Even the polo shirts look stunning and we all know how dangerous they could be and what endless disputes they are capable of causing. The looks have been unified by several accessories such as belts on the waistline and curious knitted details instead of collars with the dresses.
The genuine pearls in Ferretti’s collection are the evening gowns, of course. Perhaps not so practical about everyday wear, they remind us of a dinner party or a gala somewhere along the French Riviera. We are not quite sure what exactly Alberta wants to provoke with her collection, but if she wanted us to crave all her dresses, then she most definitely succeeded. Resort 2020 is not merely tempting, it is a fairy tale of long summer days spent in Côte d’Azur, most often on the beach, where we chase the sunset in a colourful dress and we dare life to give us more!
