Having in mind the fashion industry’s long-term craze for youthfulness, it is quite unexpected for us to see how grown-up women can also steal the limelight, especially on a platform dominated by younger audiences – Instagram. But scrolling quickly through their social media profiles, it becomes obvious why these stylish women over 50 have achieved such success. Yes, you are right, today we are talking about fashionistas in their mature age and we are going to show you some of them that you can also follow online for all sorts of fashion inspiration.

These women exude confidence with every shot while at the same time showing in a natural way their unique personal style, which they have been building and mastering for years now. They seem rather unconscious, because none of them started their projects in the name of fame, and quite authentic, which is so fascinating. These women were not planning to become fashion icons on Instagram. Instead, this happened naturally and they just went with the flow, feeling comfortable in their own skin. Do you remember Grece Ghanem and her inspiring story? Just like her, all these ladies have their own fairy tale and today we are going to present them to you so that you can draw inspiration from their bold creative experiments.

Renia Jazdzyk, 50+

Born in Poland, she is currently based in Newcastle, UK, where she is documenting her inclination to interpret fashion tendencies and to experiment with shapes and colours. Renia’s style is always well put together and polished, but never lacking originality. Her Instagram profile is a source of inspiration for how to incorporate designer trends in your everyday look without looking like an actual copy of what has been shown in fashion shows. As much as she is playing with different prints, she proves how easy it is to wear neon or shows us some cheeky denim trousers. Renia’s creativity and her love for fashion are obvious in her every outfit.

Yasmin Furmie, 50+

A social worker gone designer, the South African influencer Yasmin Furmie is the co-founder of a collection of distinctive shirts called SiSi. Her personal Instagram profile quite conveniently says, ‘Never act your age!’ The eclectic combination of prints and silhouettes – this is Yasmin’s strong side, whose stylish repertoire is brimming with unique silhouettes, fine materials and eccentric shoes. We could describe her style as whimsically excellent: she audaciously combines clothes that seem not to match at all in a way that we would never ever even expect!

Colleen Heidemann, 70

Colleen is a former cabin crew member who lives according to her credo, ‘If not now, when?’ Her stunning style was first captured by photographer Ari Seth Cohen when the two of them meet in 2011 in her shop in California. From then on, she became a fashion muse and signed a contract with Next Models. Bold and fearless fashion – this is what we have to say about Colleen. She abandons minimalism in favour of loud glamour and zest for life. With her shockingly white hair, signature smoky eyes fiery red lips she is simply magical! Her unparalleled style is obvious as much in sequins and colourful leathers as in formal suits and sophisticated gowns.

Lyn Slater, 66

Lyn, a professor at the Graduate School of Social Service, part of Fordham University, started her popular blog Accidental Icon in 2014 after she couldn’t find one that talks about women who lead “an interesting, but ordinary life”, as she puts it. Immaculately curated contemporary style in New York? Yes, please turn to Lyn Slater. Her smart aesthetics combines urban sensibility with well-thought boldness and a set of avant-garde designers such as Comme des Garçons, Margiela and Yohji Yamamoto. Her Instagram profile consists of images that look as if they were directly taken from a Céline campaign, it has large amounts of red lipstick and plenty of sunglasses. We may conclude that Lyn is a great example of the fact that in fashion there are no rules. And she has proven so many a time.
