THE MOST AMAZING DESIGNER HOSTELS IN EUROPE

x

Forget about shady lodgings and gloomy accommodations. Today, we already have enough designer hostels, where we could feel ourselves at home. They have been created and furnished with a lot of style and love, and they are usually to be found in central city locations. Some of them have rooftop terraces, offering breath-taking views to the city, others have swimming pools, saunas and nice bars, where we could spend the evening in the company of friends. The time of grumpy landlords is long gone, and so is the long waiting time in front of shared bathrooms. Hostels everywhere have already started offering single and double bedrooms with a private bathroom, and some places even boast family suites.

Barcelona: Casa Gracia

One of our favourite European hostels is Casa Gracia in Barcelona – located centrally in Passeig de Gràcia Boulevard, where you will certainly feel yourself at home. The hosts take great care of the guests and their comfort, serving fresh home-made food in the morning, or a glass of wine on the terrace. From single to 6-bed rooms. (Passeig de Gràcia 116, 08008, Barcelona, Spain, www.casagraciabcn.com)

Florence: Plus Florence

Two swimming pools, a Turkish bath, a steam bath and a sauna – in case you are unlucky to hit the rainy weather in Florence, you could easily pamper yourself at the hostel. It is located in a peaceful, quiet area, just 10 minutes away from Firenze Santa Maria Novella railway station, as well as the historical part of the city centre. From single to 8-bed rooms, family suits with a refrigerator and a microwave oven, and a ladies-only sleeping area. (Via Santa Caterina D’Alessandria 15, 50129 Firenze, Italy, www.plushostels.com)

Berlin: ONE800 Hostel

Located quite near Alexanderplatz, ONE800 Hostel offers from double bedrooms to such with 8 beds and some of them even have a balcony. The hostel can sleep 705 guests while the adjacent night club tempts with parties almost every evening. (Otto-Braun-Straße 65, 10178 Berlin, Germany, www.one80hostels.com)

London: Clink 78

The hostel offers prices starting from €14 per night (including breakfast) and is really affordable – and exciting – about guests. Just a few-minutes’ walk away from King’s Cross Station, it is housed in a Victorian building which is nearly 200 years old and offers the option of sleeping in a tent. If you prefer a more secluded place, you may also stay at the neighbouring Clink 261 Hostel, which is a bit smaller. (78 King’s Cross Rd, London, WC1X 9QG, UK, www.clinkhostels.com)

Rome: The Beehive

Hand-made soap bars in the bathroom? Yes, you are going to find them at The Beehive – a quiet environmentally friendly hostel, located next to Roma Termini railway station. And you are going to find fantastic organic breakfast and home-made bread at the vegetarian café in the hostel. Guests may choose between shared sleeping areas, a single or a double bedroom, or even a suite, equipped with a kitchen. The backyard of the hostel gives you the wonderful opportunity to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the cosmopolitan city. (Via Marghera 8, 00185 Rome, Italy, www.the-beehive.com)

Madrid: U Hostels

A XIX-century palace with a cinema hall and a rooftop terrace with a bar? Yes, and this is a hostel. Or more specifically, U Hostels in Madrid. Its minimalistic design has a rather relaxing effect on guests, while on the terrace you could enjoy the sunset with a glass of Campari in your hand. Breakfast is included in the price of your stay. (Calle de Sagasta 22, 28004 Madrid, Spain, www.uhostels.com)

Vienna: Wombat’s Hostel Naschmarkt

Waking up with a view towards the Viennese Naschmarkt is only possible at the Wombat’s Hostel. The place is a two-time winner of the Hostelworld Award for the cleanest hostel chain in the world. Weary travellers could have a welcome drink, the buffet breakfast is priced at €3.80 and most of the guests are predominantly young people.
