ANDRÉE PUTMAN’S LAWS OF SPACE

x

If the future of architectural forms is the trade mark of our favourite Zaha Hadid, then the sophistication of the interior is the signature look that helps us recognise Andrée Putman and her daughter Olivia.

The family design studio of the Parisian ladies could boast projects for some of the biggest fashion brands. Their flagship stores owe the way they look exactly to Andrée Putman’s ideas, taken outside the box of the familiar and the trivial.

The sophistication of the Parisian spirit could be felt in any of the projects by Studio Putman, which becomes the most extensive project of the great interior designer. Known for the reinvention and the return of the glamour of French modernist furniture, Andrée Putman creates a revolution in interior space and imposes her own style, beyond the boundaries of the traditional.

Throughout years, Andrée sets a unique interior reality, overflowing with black-and-white and grey shades, but mesmerising with pure shapes and extraordinary materials. Exactly because she is able to work unpredictably with shapes and spaces, she has been selected as the designer of representative stores of Guerlain, Pierre Hermé, Yves Saint Laurent, Azzedine Alaïa, Barney’s New York, Ebel, Balenciaga, Le Bon Marché and Karl Lagerfeld. But this is only a part of the embodiments of her talent. It is precisely her progressive ideas about design that an enviable number of French state institutions, such as the Ministries of Culture, Finance and Education count on.

The interesting approach of Andrée Putman towards shapes also transfers into objects, used in interior spaces. For example, the Ritual Collection of Nespresso, which brings coffee drinking closer to true art.

“Style and money have nothing in common. Good design is pure and simple, and my interest is directed towards this collection of objects which are timeless.”

And with all her projects, regardless of the fact whether they are connected to design or space, objects or even fragrances, she is guided namely by this particular interest of hers – to create timeless chic. And she has managed quite successfully. Now, her daughter Olivia Putman is developing the designer approach, imposed by Andrée.
