After just a few seconds of research on the internet, we come across Yves Saint Laurent’s favourite muse – Betty Catroux. Hers is the iconic statement that she doesn’t care about fashion at all. We find her in the splendour of 1969 with tall leather boots over the knee. She is posing with Yves Saint Laurent on the occasion of the opening of one of his boutiques in Paris. And even when Betty doesn’t care about fashion, for decades afterwards fashion has not stopped being interested in her and this specific photograph.
Because today over-the-knee boots are a main trend and also some of the best shoes for the winter. Optically they elongate the silhouette and in spite of their contradictory nature and their quite mistaken application across our latitudes, there is something exceptionally classy about them.
We wear them with dresses, sweaters, skirts and shorts. We choose suede or leather, it doesn’t really matter as long as the boot fits the leg like a glove and replaces tights. They are perfect to combine with those trendy berets, for example.
Those of you who are bolder might count on the high heel, while the ones who want to make these boots a main part of their daily wardrobe could go for flat soles. They are the best rescue squat for short skirts which do not look well with thick tights, for example. And there is no reason for us to hide it – boots high up to the skies are exceptionally sexy. We have selected a number of good combinations, which might serve as an inspiration for this trend that is slowly but surely on its way to becoming a classic.
