Milan Fashion Week turned out to be a breath of fresh air after the somewhat inert shows in New York and London. We finally managed to feel that sweet excitement, provoked by collections, loaded to the fullest with creativity and aesthetics. We regained our faith in beauty and the power of fashion to influence and enchant. Here are some of the best examples from Milan Fashion Week.
We are commemorating 20 years of the death of Gianni Versace and Donatella offered her love and deep reverence to the memory of her brother with a magnificent spectacle. Exactly! What happened cannot possibly fit into the word ‘catwalk’. We were able to see a huge part of the creative heritage which Gianni left behind – 12 iconic prints from the history of the fashion house, the safety pins, the glamour, encoded in Versace’s DNA, and more, and more. Particularly exciting was the closing of the evening, when Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni joined Donatella on the catwalk. A legendary moment and the absolute pearl in the crown of Milan Fashion Week. The social media exploded with images and was flooded by bold headlines, reflecting the show. And there were good reasons for it!
War is war and Miuccia Prada is fighting against the prejudices that women encounter in our present-day society. The rigorous outline, influenced by military attire, is not accidental. The impactful illustrations on the clothes are the work of women artists from different decades and they have been so selected on purpose. “I find it so inspirational how with a pencil in your hand you can tell the story of your life,” frankly shares the designer. And she is modelling her own story with a beautiful gesture and faith in the art she is creating.
There is a particular type of poetry in Etro’s collections, almost like magic. We adore looking at these hypnotic fairy tales and their miraculous patterns. A feast of colours and stories, collected around the globe in order to create sophisticated scenery on the catwalk. This is always a pleasure and pleasant moments are there for us to share. Enjoy them in these images.
Tod’s showed in practice what the dream wardrobe for travelling and Dolce Vita looks like. Luxury in every seam, an uncompromising selection of materials and sexy minimalism, which we would eagerly adopt. We were also fascinated by the soft palette and the sports chic. Every little detail is well thought of and even better crafted, regardless of the fact whether we are talking about cuffing the sleeves, kerchiefs or pockets, made of exotic leather. Good job!
