If you google Tommy Ton’s name, you are not going to find many of his photographs. On the other hand, you are going to come across hundreds of incredible moments from the lives of Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Anna Dello Russo, fashion editors, bloggers and street style icons. He is one of the best street fashion photographers and he is the reason for a number of Instagram sensations even though he denies it. He claims that he still finds it extremely weird when someone asks to take a photo with him. He is used to being behind the camera. This is where he is a true master, regardless of the fact that he hasn’t studied photography.
He has worked for style.com and GQ, he has done photo shoots for Vogue and has created the visual feast called Jak & Jil, while today we can take a look at all of his amazing work on tommyton.com. Nobody does photography like he does it, nobody has his point of view and his flair for detail. Every single one of his photographs is a ready print – it could become the sole reason for an entire interior design, dedicated to it.
He is at his best while shooting shoes, he finds it difficult to get used to new technology and the first time he sits in the front row is at Dolce and Gabbana’s show in 2009. Since then he has become a symbol of the best eyes for everyone, interested in fashion. He has his own list of the best-dressed people he has taken picture of (Emmanuelle Alt among many others) and has learned to capture only what he likes about a particular outfit.
While he is shooting, he loves listening to music in order to break away from all the noises of the outside. He lets his mind float and in this way he allows his own taste to grow, without being restrained, but just getting enriched by everything that takes place in the street. Today Tommy Ton is more than a photographer, he captures the contemporary history of fashion. And he succeeds in staying that 15-year-old boy from Toronto who at the beginning wanders around with a bunch of other photographers before the start of every fashion show. He is the handbook for enthusiasm and the next proof that when a person is good at something, they succeed. And if they have such a delicate soul as his, they carry and spread refinement.
